At The Golf Balls Shop we have a large selection of golf balls to suit golfers of all abilities.
Our best-selling golf balls, can be found within our brands category but also by searching within the budget, mid-range and premium categories.
Budget golf balls:
Zoom golf balls – Our own brand, Zoom golf balls are a 2-piece construction.
They are excellent quality golf balls and manufactured exclusively for us by one of our suppliers outside the UK.
The performance of the Zoom is similar to the standard you would expect from any 2-piece range balls so they can offer excellent overall distance.
If you are looking for a soft ball these probably won’t work for you as they have a firmer feel and offer great trajectory equalling any branded 2-piece ball.
Zoom have been a firm favourite for many years, offering a competitive 2-piece ball at great value for money.
Srixon Distance – Moving onto the branded golf balls which you may be familiar with, the Distance, a popular, budget golf ball manufactured by one of the leading ball manufacturers Srixon.
Distance has been part of our range of Srixon balls for many years thanks to its popularity among beginners and high handicap golfers.
It has a 2-piece construction with a large core and a thin ionomer cover. The outer layer of the Distance make it feel a lot softer than other rival 2-piece balls. You’ll find with both driver and irons that the Distance offers low spin but maximum distance. For more spin you may want to compare the balls in our mid-range or premium categories. The durability of the Srixon Distance is excellent and we think this is a great value golf ball.
Callaway Warbird – From one of the leading golf ball manufacturers, Callaway, the Warbird is another staple which has adorned our shelves for many year.
These are another popular choice for beginners and high-handicap golfers who are loyal to the Callaway brand. Like many of our budget golf balls the Callaway Warbird is a 2-piece ball with a large core and thin cover. Another option offering low spin with a driver and irons but giving maximum distance, the trajectory of the Warbird suits beginners or high handicap golfers making it easier to get the ball up in the air.
This trajectory is aided by the dimples on the Warbird which are unique to Callaway, they have their own HEX dimples which offer the best aerodynamics on a golf ball.
With excellent durability the Warbird offers you great value for money and playability.
Mid-Range golf balls:
Srixon AD333 – Our most popular mid-range golf ball, the Srixon AD333 is a great balls which offers excellent value and performance.
Launched in 2014 the AD333 soon became the number 1 choice for mid-handicap golfers due to the softer and controlled feel of the ball. Another 2-piece ball from Srixon the AD333 is a low spin ball with control off the driver offering distance but also mid spin around the greens.
Our premium balls offer more spin if this is what you are looking for from your golf ball.
Another ball which offers both excellent durability and value for money.
If you are a golfer with a handicap of around 12-20 you may benefit from using the AD333.
Titleist Trufeel– Titleist, the Number 1 manufacturer in the world offer this incredibly popular mid-range ball, the TruFeel. Preceded by the TruSoft the TruFeel are very similar in style with their red packaging. Although the TruFeel are the cheapest ball in the Titleist range they are very much a mid-range ball in their performance. With a 2-piece construction, soft feel and great control around the greens, when tested in our swing studio these, alongside the AD333 were the best all-round performers.
The TruFeel are slightly more expensive than the AD333 so may not offer as much value for money in our mid-range category.
Golfers with a handicap of around 12-20 would be the recommended group to use the TruFeel.
Callaway Supersoft– Another attractive offering from Callaway, the Supersoft are another of our best selling golf balls. With a 2-piece construction similar to both the AD333 and Trufeel, the Supersoft also offers a soft feel and excellent control around the greens.
The Supersoft also have the advantage of being available in more vivid matte colours for those who prefer playing with a coloured golf ball.
So, which mid-range ball would we recommend? Through testing all of the mid-range balls we have found that the results are very similar in how each perform.
Each has slightly differing trajectory (launch) whilst the spin and durability is very similar. Ultimately it will come down to player preference, based on price, brand of aesthetics. Regardless of which mid-range ball you choose we don’t think you will be disappointed.
Premium golf balls:
Titleist ProV1 golf balls – We’ve spoken about Titleist being the number 1 manufacturer for golf balls in the world, now we come to the Pro V1! It has been the number 1 choice of golf ball for Pro golfers and those with a low handicap for over 20 years. Alongside the Pro V1, Titleist also offer the Pro V1x, both perform slightly differently but are equally as popular with tour an amateur golfers.
Differences in Construction - With a 3-piece construction, the Pro V1 with a large core, high flex casing layer and a soft Urethane layer.
The ProV1x has a 4-piece construction with a duel core, plus the same high flex casing layer and a soft Urethane layer.
What’s the Trajectory like? –Pro V1 is designed to give a low ball flight trajectory, but can offer increased distance with a driver. Better players with steeper swings often create too much spin, and so the ProV1 is often the preferred golf ball.
Opposingly the Titleist ProV1x golf ball launches higher and offers a slightly lower spin rate.
How does the Feel compare?– Compared to other premium balls (including the ProV1x) the Pro V1 does have a softer feel.
TaylorMade TP5 golf balls – TaylorMade were the first manufacturer to launch a 5-peice ball and the TP5 and TP5x both follow this model.
Differences in Construction – Both the TP5 and TP5x have small core wrapped with 4 layers, which includes a Urethane cover similar to other premium golf balls.
In our testing these balls have offered some impressive results; With excellent distance and control, here is some additional information about the differences between the TP5 and the TP5x:
What’s the Distance like? – You’ll get great distance from both balls but you will find that the TP5x will give higher launch, it feels firmer and delivers more distance off the tees.
How do the Flight and spin vary? – TP5x delivers higher ball flight and lower spin rate with a driver. If you are looking for extra spin around the greens the TP5x is the ball for you. It will also feel a little softer.
Chrome Soft golf balls – With 3 balls in the Chrome family the Chrome Soft stands out as the most popular among our customers, with the Chrome Tour and Chome Tour X newer members of the family.
Chrome Soft are a 3-piece construction with a large core, a casing layer and soft Urethane outer layer, while the new Chrome Tour and Tour X have a 4-piece construction which includes an extra mantle layer.
They also may feel a lot softer than most premium golf balls due to the compression, construction and softer cover. They offer excellent spin with irons, alongside excellent control around the greens.
Conclusion
It’s now really common for manufacturers to produce two models of their premium balls, which are designed to suit all golfers e.g. The TaylorMade TP5 and TP5x, the Callaway Chrome Tour and Chrome Tour X, Srixon Z Star and Z Star XV.
We are finding that durability of golf balls is improving year on year with the latest models lasting much longer than their predecessors.
